Salmon Region Fishing Information

Weekly Fishing Report

Updated: November 19, 2009

This report highlights a few of the best places to fish, what anglers are using and what they are catching. The information is compiled from regional Fish and Game fishery managers, local tackle shops and anglers.

Steelhead fishing in the Salmon Region is still pretty hot right now. While angler numbers have dropped somewhat, catch rates are still very good throughout the region. In section 15 from the Middle Fork Salmon River to North Fork, anglers had catch rates of 7 hours per fish caught and 10 hours per fish kept. Catch rates in upriver sections were not quite as good, but were still providing some excellent fishing. Section 16 from North Fork to the mouth of the Lemhi River had catch rates of 10 hours per fish caught and 14 hours per fish kept. Section 17 from the Lemhi River to the mouth of the Pahsimeroi River had catch rates of 14 hours per fish caught and 16 hours per fish kept.

Water temperatures have dropped significantly as winter weather moved into the region. Temperatures of 36 - 37 degrees were recorded in all sections. The river is still running clear.

Anglers are reminded that limits on steelhead have been increased. The daily limit is now 5 fish of which no more than three fish may be 32 inches or more in length. The possession limit has been raised to 15 fish, no more than 9 of which may be 32 inches or more in length.

Don't forget to check with the tackle shop nearest your fishing destination for bait, tackle, additional fishing tips and information on local fishing waters.
