Enforcement
Fish and Game Conservation Officers are some of the busiest people in the world. As part of the mule deer initiative, they may be getting a bit busier. Our enforcement officers will focus more effort on targeting those who target mule deer.
Much of that effort will be directed at protecting mule deer when they are at their most vulnerable, during the winter. At a time when mule deer are less mobile poachers can more easily target them. To survive the winter, mule deer must conserve energy. Snowmobiles, domestic dogs and general interactions with humans can cause undue stress on mule deer affecting their ability to make it through this critical time. Careless use of off road vehicles can also impact mule deer survival during warmer seasons.
Conservation Officers will crack down on people who harass mule deer in the winter, and will also crack down on poachers who target mule deer on their winter ranges. They will also monitor off road vehicle use in all seasons to ensure ORV use is not detrimental to mule deer herds.
As always our enforcement officers will count on your help. If you are aware of any illegal activity impacting mule deer or any other Idaho wildlife, report it!
