Partners in Flight

The goal of Partners in Flight (PIF) is to focus resources on the improvement of monitoring, research, management, conservation, and education programs involving birds and their habitats. Idaho PIF, formed in 1992, is the state-level working group of the International PIF program. Partners in Flight is a coalition of biologists from federal and state agencies, universities, Tribes, industry, and nongovernmental organizations, as well as members of the public with a keen interest in birds (e.g., Audubon Chapters). The Idaho Department of Fish and Game took on leadership of the group in 1993. Originally established to focus on Neotropical migratory landbirds, PIF soon expanded to encompass all landbirds (i.e., both resident and migrant species), and more recently has joined forces with waterfowl, waterbird, and shorebird working groups under the umbrella of the North American Bird Conservation Initiative (NABCI).
