Visiting Big Cottonwood WMA

Handicapped Access - Access within the WMA varies by area. Visitors with special access needs are encouraged to contact the area manager about which area might be most suitable for physically challenged individuals. In all cases, it is recommended that visitors assess their own abilities before entering WMA.

Vehicles and Parking - Use of motorized vehicles is permitted ONLY on designated roads shown on the map found in this brochure. Please park only in parking areas and locations that will permit unrestricted traffic flow.

Hunting and Fishing - Both hunting and fishing are allowed on the WMA. However, because specific regulations for these activities and access to some locations within the area may change from year to year, it is important to consult current hunting and fishing regulations. These are available at the WMA headquarters or at Fish and Game license vendors.

Safety Zone - The area immediately around the WMA headquarters is closed to hunting. Shooting in and around this area, where staff and visitors are likely to be, is prohibited for safety purposes.

Camping and Campfires - Camping is allowed on most areas within the WMA, but is limited to no more than 10 days within any 30-day period on Department lands. All fires must be attended and may be prohibited when fire danger is high. Signs will be posed if a fire closure is necessary.

Wildlife Observation/Photography - The management area provides excellent opportunities to view wildlife, particularly birds. Visitors are welcome to hike all open interior roads for viewing and photographic purposes. Remember to watch for nesting area closure signs.

Pets - Dogs must be kept on a leash or under close control at all times except for bird dogs during hunting seasons. The release or abandonment of domestic animals is prohibited.
