Visiting Hours – Cartier Slough Wildlife Management Area is open year-round and has no established visiting hours. School and other groups are encouraged to visit Cartier Slough WMA during each season to see how seasonal changes affect the habitat and wildlife. Trails provide educational experiences for all age groups..
Access for the Disabled – Cartier Slough WMA has no facilities designed for persons with disabilities. The adjacent Beaver Dick County Park does have such facilities. Visitors with special needs are encouraged to contact WMA management personnel to determine which areas are most suitable for physically challenged visitors. In all cases, visitors are encouraged to assess their own abilities before entering Cartier Slough WMA.
Vehicles/Parking – The WMA is closed to motorized vehicles except for the main access road and parking areas along the north side of the WMA. Three parking areas have been provided along this access road. Additional parking is available in the adjacent Beaver Dick County Park. Park only in designated areas.
Area Restrictions – Access to some areas of the WMA may be restricted during the nesting season. Watch for posted areas and please avoid entering them. Contact WMA management personnel for details.
Wildlife Observation/Photography – Visitors are encouraged to take advantage of the trails and viewing opportunities throughout Cartier Slough WMA to observe and photograph wildlife. The diverse population of the WMA during each season provides many opportunities for good viewing and photography.
Hunting/Fishing/Trapping – Hunting, fishing and trapping are allowed on Cartier Slough WMA. Generally all seasons and bag limits that apply to the surrounding area apply on the WMA. Consult current regulations for specific exceptions such as short-range weapon restrictions for big game hunters and WMA pheasant permit requirements. Trappers must register with WMA management personnel.
Boating – A boat ramp is located in the adjacent Beaver Dick County Park. County park rules and regulations will apply.
Camping – Camping is allowed in the adjacent Beaver Dick County Park. Consult park management personnel for regulations and rules.
Fires/Firewood Cutting – No fires or firewood cutting is allowed on the WMA. Consult management personnel for Fires and Firewood Cutting rules within Beaver Dick County Park.
Pets – Pets must be leashed or under close control at all times on Cartier Slough WMA, with the exception of bird dogs, where permitted, during hunting season. The release or abandonment of domestic animals on Cartier Slough WMA is prohibited at all times.
Horses and Hay - Horseback riding is allowed on trails in Cartier Slough WMA. Visitors bringing hay for their horses must bring in only hay certified to be weed free.
