Cartier Slough WMA supports a diverse population that includes over 200 species of wildlife. Moose, mule deer and white-tailed deer are resident on the WMA and the occasional elk may be seen. Beaver, muskrat, cottontail rabbits are common throughout the WMA. Geese and a great variety of ducks nest on the WMA while trumpeter and tundra swans migrate through the area and are common during spring and fall months. At least four species of hummingbirds come to the WMA during spring and summer months. Countless songbirds fill the air with music from early spring till late fall. Winter will even find a few resident birds including great horned owls that reside on the WMA year-round.
