Montpelier WMA Information

How To Get There
Leaving the City of Montpelier traveling east on US 89 for 2 1/2 miles is the WMA entrance and parking lot on the north side of the highway. This is as far as motorized vehicles may travel on the north side of the highway.

General Information
Montpelier WMA is located one-quarter mile east of the City of Montpelier in Bear Lake County. It is managed to provide wildlife habitat and wildlife related recreation. The Idaho Department of Fish and Game owns 1,312 acres and manages 825 adjacent acres owned by the Bureau of Land Management and Idaho Department of Lands. The major objective is the protection and enhancement of mule deer and elk winter range. Access for hunting, trapping and wildlife viewing will be maintained as much as possible without compromising wildlife habitat values.

Mission Statement: The mission of the Montpelier Wildlife Management Area is to enhance mule deer winter range through vegetation management; to benefit wildlife and fish species by maintaining optimal successional stage and vegetation type diversity while improving plant vigor; and to provide opportunities for non-consumptive and consumptive wildlife-based recreation that is compatible with maintaining high quality wildlife and fish habitat.
