Command ReferenceThe Map Center's functionally consists of two areas: Map Tools and Map Display. Map Tools are of two types. The majority perform a function the second they are clicked (once). Two exceptions are pan and zoombox which require you to select the tool and then go to the map and either click once (to zoom or pan to that spot), or you may click-drag-unclick (depress the left mouse button, drag across the map and then let go) this will allow you to draw a zoom box identifying the area you wish to zoom to, or drag the map to pan. Double click will not work, and in Internet Explorer could result in errors (see Known Issues below). Map Display is controlled using the Layers tab. Select the layers you wish to be visible by toggling the checkboxes
next to their names. Note the icon next to the layer name denotes whether it is a point, line, polygon or image type. To redraw the map and see changes
you may zoom, pan or click |

Known Issues:Map Controls will not respond in Internet Explorer Cannot copy the map image or when attempting to copy get transparent.gif Some users have reported they have trouble printing maps Technical Overview:The Idaho Hunt Planner's Map Center is a mapping and data viewing application that operates much like a conventional Web page whereby the browser's Back and Forward buttons navigate through previously generated maps. Consequently, the Map Center is not required to run in a separate (popup) window with these buttons intentionally removed. In fact, the browser's Back and Forward buttons are an integral part of Map Center's interface. Use Back and Forward to revisit previous map pages and pan or zoom the map to a different location or use a different map function than before. The Map Center's Web pages do not use HTML Frames. All content is contained in a single HTML page. Javascript is required since Dynamic HTML (DHTML) is applied to position and control the visibility of content on the page that changes. For example, DHTML is used to drag the map image with the pan tool or draw a rubber-banding rectangle when using the zoom in tool. The Map Center is compatible with both Microsoft and Netscape browsers, including Netscape 4. An HTML form rather than Application or Session variables preserve client state between requests. Consequently, the Map Center does not timeout if left idle for 20 minutes, which is the typical life span for a session variable. Because all map variables are stored in an HTML form, if the Map Center does not load correctly due to a network interruption it may be reloaded using the browser's refresh button. Credits: The Map Center relies on DHTML developed by Howard Sternberg and made publicly available on the ArcScripts site. ASP.NET Code developed by Brent Thomas (IDFG) for the Idaho Hunt Planner will be made available on the pubic domain. Go Back |
